The house is ours!!

Well we closed yesterday morning at 9AM.  Closing quick and painless!  We do still have some outstanding issues that need to be addressed with our home.  The PM was having some of those issues handled yesterday and has more "fixes" scheduled for next week.   I do have a question for you bloggers.  Were all of you satisfied with the level of cleaning that was done to your home before closing?  Lisa and I are very particuliar about having a clean house and were quite surprised as to how dusty the house was, dirty windows, dirt and water marks on the hardwoods, paint on the hardwoods, stain on the banister spindles, Hydroseed on the walkout door and some windows, and I also noticed that brick to grade was covered with mud and dirt.  One last item our lamp post isnt cemented into the ground or in fact secured.  If I grab it I can pull it to one side or another.  Does anyone else have lamp post issues like that?

Enough said on that subject.  We do have a great house and we cant wait to move in next week.  I will post some picture soon.

  1. I wasn't thrilled with the cleaning, but it doesn't sound nearly as bad as yours. Brick to grade was clean, floors and counters clean. No paint on banisters. It was just the construction dust that's driving me batty. All the trim, all the wire shelves, etc.

And congrats! Glad to hear closing went so well!

  2. Hmmm.....I wonder who does the cleaning? Do they have a cleaning service or do the workers clean the home?

    HAPPY MOVING!!!!

Can't wait to see pictures of you, Lisa and the baby in your new Jefferson HOME!

  3. Congrats J and L!! May your moving be nice and Smoooooooth!

I echo your sentiment on the cleaning/cleanliness.. Some things were immaculate when we did the final walkthrough, however on the closing day I noticed some cleaning issues. We couldn't care because we were in excitement mode, but in hindsight perhaps I should have said something =)

    Best of Luck!

  4. I was shocked that a cleaning crew had been here the day before. They did a crappy job on the windows, the garage floor was especially dusty and dirty, and a lot of the white trim around the front door & garage had muddy fingerprints.

  5. They do different stages of cleaning. They just did the first one this past week, and they didn't do a very good job. My kitchen cabinets are now streaked and if it can't be fixed will ask for new doors. They are suppose to power wash your house so have them come back and do it!!!!

  6. Ours was really dirty too. The windows are especially bad and their was a lot of dirt/dust on the baseboards and doors. I was disappointed how much cleaning was needed with a brand new house. I'm thinking the construction crew did our tiny amount of cleaning because the PM mentioned shop-vac'ing our basement (which still was dirty).

  7. Congrats on closing!! The cleaning isn't exactly what I would call a cleaning. I hired a cleaning service to come in just because. It took them a solid 3 1/2 hours to clean and then I felt comfortable walking around with bare feet. The exterior was in fair condition. I would talk to your PM, they are coming back anyways for other things so they might as well "clean" again. Hopefully it will be better!

  8. Team Mom, good idea about hiring someone, after that very long process you just want to enjoy NOT clean...but it sounds like its JUST the way it is and not a battle that will be won.......

  9. They hire cleaners so it's not terrible, but it's not the kind of clean you'll want to do yourself. I think their cleaners are supposed to get it clean enough for you to come into the house with your stuff. After movers and everything being traipsed through the house you'll want to do a real good cleaning anyway.

  10. Our house was filthy!! I even complained to the PM and he basically blew me off. I do understand that the dust is most likely in the duct work from the house being under construction, but that doesn't excuse the rest of it. The windows don't even look like anyone tried to clean them. Everything was streaky and we've had every problem you listed above! It's been almost 2 months and it still irks me that I had to spend an entire weekend cleaning my NEW house!

The exterior of our house wasn't clean yet. Since we have brick, they do an acid wash to it. I don't know if they do that if your whole front isn't brick.
